You know, I've got a few blogs I could share with you, but it's late and I'm tired and I'd like to get my Trek on for a bit before bed, so instead I'll just share a little saying that is cherished by some friends of mine.

"We came for SG-1, but we stayed for each other."

Damn skippy. Science fiction has been a part of my life for a very long time, and fandom is a huge part of that. I am not as deeply invested in Star Wars as you appear to be (though it's rare that I'm beaten in non-EU trivia), but I can honestly say that sci-fi (especially Stargate and Firefly) changed my life. And not in a "I live for this show and never leave my house" way, but in a "this show made my life bigger" way.

I blog for an international sci-fi magazine. I occasionally write articles for them. I am involved in a national charity. I have many wonderful friends the world over, who shelter me when I'm lucky enough to travel abroad.

And you know what?

Every bit of that, in the end, is due to Stargate and Firefly. Without the common bond of a shared passion, I would not have met the people who matter most in my life. I would not have the joy of writing in my life. Frankly, I would not be who I am.

So, yeah. Suck it, Ebert. You're doing it wrong, indeed.

(By the way, I came here via Twitter. I'm sure you can figure out the username all on your own. Also? Userpic? Yeah, two college degrees here, Ebert. And I haven't lived in my parent's house since I was eighteen. Also? I'm a GIRL! *gasp*)

Okay, I'm done now. Time for some Trek and some sleep.
